Meditate Milwaukee Hosts Monthly Meditation Sessions
Jan 02, 2019 12:06PM
Meditate Milwaukee, a one-hour free monthly event open to the public, takes place the first Sunday of each month. The doors open at 2 p.m., with the meditation beginning promptly at 2:30 p.m. Free parking is available in the lot of Sojourner Family Peace Center. Each month features a different meditation guide and a musical guest. The meditation guide on January 6 will be Ragani, with music provided by Fred Bliffert.
Meditate Milwaukee is open to everyone and no meditation experience is needed. Meditation is a practice to calm the mind for the purpose of mental clarity and emotional calm. The desired result is decreased stress and improved health and sense of well-being. The practice uses simple techniques, such as focusing on a particular object, thought or activity such as breathing. Studies have demonstrated that the health and wellness benefits associated with meditation are amplified in a group setting. Meditating with others also creates connection and community.
“Our minds like to wander,” notes the organizers of Meditate Milwaukee. “Having a guide who talks us through the meditation helps train the mind to stay focused in the present.”
